What makes this situation particularly concerning is the low contact tracing coverage rate of 56%, which is a sharp decline from the previous week. This rate is further complicated by the conflict in Ituri, which has displaced nearly a million people, making it difficult to track contacts and contain the spread of the virus. The situation is made even more challenging by the presence of artisanal miners who move frequently between remote sites, and the skepticism and attacks on health workers from angry residents. The fact that the outbreak has spread across the border to Uganda is a cause for serious concern. In response to the outbreak, the U.S. has proposed building an Ebola quarantine center in Kenya, but this plan has faced opposition and legal challenges. From my perspective, the low contact tracing coverage rate and the challenges posed by the conflict and the movement of artisanal miners are the most critical issues that need to be addressed. The fact that the outbreak has spread across the border to Uganda is a cause for serious concern, and the U.S. proposal to build a quarantine center in Kenya is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough.
